Abstract
This webinar features presentations from experts at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) SBIR Development Center and the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER) Small Business and Industry Assistance (SBIA) program. Monique Pond introduces the NCI SBIR/STTR program, highlighting it as America’s largest seed fund, providing non-dilutive R&D funding to small businesses trying to bridge the gap from basic science research to commercialization. Approximately $200 million is available through NCI for companies focused on developing cancer-related technologies, supporting a diverse portfolio from early-stage startups to established businesses, with awards ranging from $300,000 up to $4.5 million. NCI emphasizes technology innovation and the potential unmet medical need it addresses. Brenda Stodart then presents CDER’s SBIA program, emphasizing its mission to ensure immediate access to resources, education, and training for a more clearly informed and efficient developmental process, aiming for proven safe and effective human drugs and biopharmaceuticals. SBIA offers direct communication services with healthcare professionals, comprehensive training resources including workshops, conferences like REdI and CITC, and webinars, a detailed webpage with a searchable database of over 800 webcasts, and daily news and updates via an email listserv, all designed to support industry.
